MyLab: The Files

Overview

I am choosing to install a Microsoft Windows File Server to hold shares for the domain as well as VMware Dynamic Environment Manager (DEM) configuration files and user profile information.

Install the Windows File Server Role

Add Shares

Open Server Manager > File and Storage Services > Shares

Click To create a file share, start the New Share Wizard. I am going to add three shares right now. One will be for general file sharing in the domain, one will be for VMware Dynamic Endpoint Manager (DEM) Configuration, and the last one will be for end user’s profile data that log into Horizon Desktops using DEM.

Leave the default, SMB Share – Quick.

Leave the default, Select by volume: and choose the volume intended to store the shares.

I am going to start with the dem-config share.

I am leaving the default share settings.

I am going to leave the default permissions here and configure with advanced settings after the wizard completes.

Review the selections and go back to change if necessary.

Repeat the wizard for each share that is required. For VMware Dynamic Environment Manager (DEM), there should be at least two shares configured. One is for configuration data and the other is for storing the user’s profile data.
